Arizona Charter Academy Receives Approval to be Part of Arizona Interscholastic Association for Sports
The Surprise School Previously Participated in the Charter Athletic League, Which was Designed Exclusively for Charter Schools

SURPRISE, Arizona—On April 16, Arizona Charter Academy in Surprise was approved to be part of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) for sports.

For the past seven years, the school has participated in the Charter Athletic League, which was designed specifically for charter schools.

According to Stephani Olson, Principal of both the Junior High and High School, being included in the AIA league will have a tremendously positive impact on the students who play sports, as well as the entire school.

For example, Olson said that being part of the AIA will give the school both leadership and representation at the national level by providing student athletes with more scholarship opportunities due to the school’s increased exposure and the league’s outstanding reputation.

“We will also have access to special programs and awards, such as the Excellence Awards, Blue Cup Award, Everyday Heroes Awards Program, and many more,” she said.

“Also, being able to participate in opportunities like the Pursuing Victory with Honor program will help reflect our school's mission to promote community outreach, citizenship, and excellence in sportsmanship.”

Because varsity athletes tend to get a lot of playing time due to Arizona Charter Academy’s smaller student population, Olson hopes the recent AIA approval will attract more students to the school, which features an excellent academic program and individual attention to student achievement.

Olson said the AIA also offers seminars, in-service training, workshops, and adjudication and resolution of issues and concerns, as well as a greater overall support for the school’s athletic department.

“We are thrilled to have been approved by the AIA and are really looking forward to seeing all of the positive ways it will impact our school.”

 Early Kindergarten Now Enrolling
Believe it or not, the 2011-2012 school year will be ending soon. Across the west valley, parents of 4-year-olds are already thinking ahead to next year and looking into the various school-related options they have for their children.

Arizona Charter Academy in Surprise offers 4-year-olds who will turn 5 by January 1, 2013 the opportunity to test for the Early Kindergarten program. Testing will begin later this month.

For many parents, this program gives their children the chance to get a jump start on their education by starting kindergarten a full year earlier.

If you would like to more information about the program, the upcoming testing dates, or anything else related to the Early Kindergarten program, please call 623-974-4959.
